Rik Samaey, is one of the greatest names in Belgian basketball. He began his career in the youth ranks of BC Oostende and quickly became an undeniable force on the court. With his impressive height of 2.04 meters, he played as a center, excelling in both Belgian club basketball and the national team. Samaey won five national titles and five cups with BC Oostende, and was named Player of the Year five times. He then moved to Racing Mechelen, where he became Belgian champion seven times. During his career, he collected 108 caps for the Belgian national team and participated in the European Championships of 1979 and 1993. After his active career, he remained involved in basketball, including as a coach and commentator.
His favorite place in Ostend? The Royal Stables – once built as horse stables commissioned by Leopold II, now a sports center where the passion for sport is still palpable.
