° 18/09/1972, Ostend
As one of Belgium’s most successful swimmers, she participated in four consecutive Olympic Games (1988 to 2000), reaching the finals in both the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke in ’96. Her greatest successes came in ’94 and ’95 at (world) championships in Rome and Vienna, where she won several medals – including multiple gold ones. These achievements earned her the title of ‘Belgian Sportswoman of the Year‘ in both ’94 and ’95.
After her active swimming career, Becue continued her passion as head coach at Leuven Aquatics. In ’23, she was appointed as an elite coach at the Flemish Swimming Federation. In recognition of her merits, the new swimming pool in Ostend was named after her. Brigitte Becue remains an inspiration for both current and future generations of swimmers in Belgium.
