Bart Tommelein, born and raised in Oostende, led his city as mayor from 2019 to 2024. In the years prior, he played a significant role in Flemish politics, serving as a member of parliament, senator, and Flemish representative. He also became the faction leader of the liberals and held various ministerial positions.
His time as mayor was focused on the renewal and strengthening of Oostende as a tourist and economic attraction. After the end of his mayorship, Tommelein decided to retire from politics to take on a new challenge as a strategic advisor.
Bart loves every corner of his city, but his favorite spots remain the Royal Villa and the Wellington Racecourse, where the authenticity of Oostende’s rich history is still palpable.
