John Crombez is an Ostend politician who has been committed to social justice and sustainability for years. After his economics studies at Ghent University, he started his career with the socialists and held various important positions, including State Secretary in the Federal government. As party chairman from 2015 to 2019, he gave the party new energy and strengthened its position.
In 2025, he became mayor of Ostend, where he works on developing an innovative, sustainable, and welcoming city. His focus is on promoting the local economy, improving social services, and strengthening environmentally friendly initiatives. Besides his political career, music is an essential part of his life. Since 2009, he has been a guitarist with SevZero, a rock band in which he plays together with fellow Ostendian Peter Craeymeersch.
His guitar has been his ultimate relaxation for more than 30 years. An electric guitar and an amplifier give him energy. From the Brussels metro, the Ghent Festival, the Ostend café de Twilight, or the Paulus Festival, he has played them all.
